Pre-school is the first stage of the French education system. It is a school designed for children from three years of age and comprises three school years.

Its goal is to evoke in children the desire to attend school in order to learn, to reinforce and develop their personality. This period of schooling develops educational and pedagogical foundations, which form the basis for students’ future education throughout the remainder of their compulsory schooling.

Developing the skills of every child

5 years Pre-school department GS

4 years Middle department MS

3 years Infants PS

The pre-school tuition programmes are organised into five areas:

  • use of speaking skills
  • doing, expressing, and understanding through physical activities
  • doing, expressing, and understanding through creative activities
  • building the foundations of independent structured thinking
  • exploring the world

In addition to the teacher, every classroom is also staffed by a specialised pre-school assistant, giving each student the necessary level of attention according to his/her physical and intellectual development and dealing with the rules of life in society.

The student gradually becomes more independent, creating a relationship to the other children and to adults and practises his/her motor, sensory, emotional, and intellectual abilities. The student becomes familiar with writing.

The main objective is to attain a rich verbal expression, which is logical and understandable for others.

Every morning the door opens ten minutes before the lesson starts. This is the time when attention is paid to every child and he/she is listened to.

This marks the transition from the family environment to the school environment, when the child becomes a student.

Our kindergarten is characterised by three key points:

one

A school that adapts to small children

two

A school that teaches how to learn

three

A school where children work together and live together

1. Routines

Are organised in the morning or during the day. This time in the classroom allows students to participate in activities. They are an integral part of tuition.

image

2. Tuition

Tuition takes place either in a large group or in small groups. Frequency is an important factor: repetition and regularity are essential to retaining the knowledge that students have acquired.

image

3. Groups

This time spent in the classroom enables students to discover activities and talk about their school work, procedures as well as about their emotions.

4. Breaks

During the break, students can go out into the open air, change the scenery and invent games. The yard has various areas suitable for children’s needs.

5. Post-lunch nap or rest

A post-lunch nap is compulsory for children attending the Infants section (PS). A rest period is included in the timetable of the year 2 infants section (MS) at the start of the afternoon. These periods evolve over the school year and by department.

6. Lunch (11:30 AM-12:45 PM)

In the pre-school, lunch is served directly in the classroom.
